The video and slides for lecture 16 are now online. The video for lecture 15 has also been online for a while - sorry for the late notice.

Samir will hold office hours on demand this Friday, 1-2:30 pm EST in the classroom, if you send him an email. See the syllabus page for the emails of the TFs.

Lecture 15 slides are now online, including the PCA Matlab code that Kalyan showed in class. Also take a look at the introductory PCA paper by Lindsay Smith.

Lecture 14 video online


The video and slides for lecture 14, the guest lecture by Frank van Ham on network visualization, are now online.

As announced in class, we will record attendance for all guest lectures from now on.

Slides for today’s lecture on maps, including the discussion of midterm solutions at the beginning of class, are now posted on the lectures page.

We will post good student solutions for HW 1 and the midterm soon.

Reading assignment for Monday: Chapter 9 in the Ware book. This final chapter is a good summary of the perceptual principles we discussed.

Lecture 6 slides & color rules online


Lecture 6 slides on color are now online on the lectures page. Please read chapters 5 & 6 in Ware by Monday.

I put a nice summary of color design rules on the downloads page (ColorRules.pdf). Please print it out and keep it handy.

Slides for lecture 4 are now online. The video production takes a bit longer than usual.

I also posted the Python code that Samir showed last Friday and the Processing notes that Moritz will discuss this Friday during section on the download page.

And I fixed the links to the slides for lecture 1 and 2.

Lecture slides and links will be posted on the course lectures page. The PDF of the lecture slides contains links to web sites. The links are typically in the lower right corner (attributions) or on the images. You will notice them when the cursor changes into a hand.
