Lecture 12 slides & midterm discussion online


Slides for today’s lecture on maps, including the discussion of midterm solutions at the beginning of class, are now posted on the lectures page.

We will post good student solutions for HW 1 and the midterm soon.

Video for lecture 11 / schedule change


The video for lecture 11 is now online.

Please note a scheduling change on the lectures page: Frank van Ham will give his guest lecture next Wednesday, not this week as originally planned.

We will talk about Maps tomorrow and also discuss some solutions to the midterm exam at the beginning of the class. Please be on time!




Midterm Clarifications

two clarifications:

1) in Part 2, you are asked to redesign "two parts" from the visualization in Part 1. the term
part is given in Part 1 as: "Take a look at the visualization above, which has three distinct parts (migration, major metros, and urban sprawl), and write a visualization critique. "

2) you do not actually
need the class survey data for the exam, just an understanding of the questions and data options.

Midterms Available

The midterm is now available on the Midterm page. The drop box for the exam will close exactly at 7pm EST on Wednesday March 4th. We will not be excepting any exams past this time, so make sure you get your exam uploaded in time!

You may not work with any other students on this exam, or, post any questions related to the exam on the bulletin board until after the drop box is closed. If you have questions please email them to Miriah.

No class on Monday / midterm


As announced today, there is no class on Monday because of the midterm exam.

The exam will be online on the course web site Mon, 5 pm EST, until Wed, 5 pm EST. You will have to submit your answers by Wed, 5 pm EST in the course iSite drop box (see detailed instructions in the exam). The exam should not take longer than the usual class time of 90 minutes.
